What you should
know. Uganda
is a very welcoming society and certainly welcomes any visitor.
But we strongly advise that people coming in should endeavor
to dress modestly and respect the cultures and the government
apparatus in place.
Ugandans are very friendly people but
you should not be so trusting and watch who you interact with
and how much you want to know them.
Safety for your life is always never
in question but you might want
to take it further and let the embassy know you came into
the country. But in most cases this is not necessary. Its
pretty safe in Kampala and the North is now safer than it
was before.
We discourage
certain habits like smoking,
beer drinking and bad language when you are on the mission
field. You come to impact lives positively and we surely would
request you to live up to that, well at least on the mission
field.
Be careful what you carry around, no
firearms, drugs etc, these are not permitted at all and many
times visitors have had to be detained if caught in possession
of a firearm, Be careful you don't want to want to be caught
in these circumstances.
Openly showing affection on the mission
field is prohibited. You
are dealing with young people and you might want to keep that
for the other times but not on the mission field. To some
people it’s not appropriate to see you do this and might
offend some.
Guard your money purses well.
Always expect anything to happen. Passports
should often not be left behind unless there is a safe deposit
box but usually its safer when its tucked on your body. Jewellery
attracts attention from street junkies, find an apporopriate
place to wear it.
We suggest that you don’t easily
just set out to go buy anything you might want to
bring at home alone, Always find a Ugandan
Member of the call Uganada to take you shopping because many
times prices are inflated because it’s a white person
buying. But we encourage you to try looking for this beautiful
place called African Village, trust me you will like what
you will see.
